London calling 2: Sunday UpMarket

04Aug10

Sunday UpMarket first opened its doors in September 2004. With over 140 stalls selling fashion, accessories, crafts, interiors and music, it is undoubtedly one of London’s most exciting and imaginative markets.

The Old Truman Brewery has a history of supporting artists and designers, and with this in mind UpMarket aims to be a platform for designer-makers to sell direct to their customers. Many things you find on Upmarket are one-off bespoke items, produced by the stallholders themselves. You can find everything from edgy women’s wear, customised men’s clothing, high fashion, and beautifully tailored children’s clothes to handmade jewellery.

UpMarket’s famous food area, with cottage-industry style passionate caterers creating home-to-market food has already found a huge fan base. Ethiopian hand roasted coffee, Turkish specialties, lovely Moroccan dishes, Spanish Paellas and Empanadas, hand-rolled Sushi (done in front of you), Japanese sweets and savoury pancakes, Carrom Cafe’s Lassi, Chai and Indian Street Snacks, Thai food and Caribbean sea bass and fried plantain sandwiches’ It’s a long list.

Giving you everything you possibly want; good grub and unique styles, UpMarket is the perfect place to wile away your Sundays.
