Scissor Sisters and Robert Mapplethorpe

Scissor Sisters front man Jake Shears has spent a lot of time showing off his newly toned body in recent photo shoots, but that’s not his butt on the cover of the band’s latest album, Night Work.

The spandex-covered derriere shot was taken by photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, who died in 1989. His images will be used as covers for each of Night Work’s singles.

The album pays homage to the club scene of the ’70s and ’80s.

“So much was progressive and being pushed and something was on fire,” says Shears. “And then the party stopped in a way that couldn’t have been more dramatic. A whole generation was wiped out. Where was Sylvester, Frankie, all that heading? What if music hadn’t stopped dead in its tracks? What if you could pick up where that left off?”
